What we do
-
The Fine Art Restoration Trust is here to help. If you have a painting in need of 'restoring' you've come to the right place. We use a unique style of restoration which is quick and effective, with most artifacts returned in one piece.
Brief History
-
FART was founded by Eric Sommer who went into the business of art restoration in 1913, coincidentally the same year that the Mona Lisa was found after it's alarming disappearance in 1911. Originally located in France, Eric Sommer Ltd relocated during the war and has been based in London, England ever since. Eric Sommer died in 1995 but his legacy lives on.

WARNING! DO NOT READ THIS!
- You may have heard of this book.
Do not read it. It is full of lies.
FART is by no means involved in the recovery of stolen art. We are quiet, reserved people who like nothing more than a calm day's work in front of a canvas with some cleaning fluid and a palette of historic paints. No stealing back stolen works of art from the bad guys here. No siree.
TRUE FACTS
- 1. Dealing in stolen art is believed to be the 3rd most profitable criminal activity, after drugs and weapons.
- 2. It is estimated to be worth a possible $6 billion (£3.5 Billion) a year.
- 3. Art thieves' favourite countries to steal from are Italy, France, Poland, Russia and Germany.
- 4. The most famous work of art to be stolen was the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1911. It was recovered in 1913.
- 5. FART has a 92% restoration rate.
(NB. This is an unrelated fact. FART is in no way connected to stolen art.)
