HOW TO JOIN

I run two different teenage reading groups at the Bath Central Library.
One for 11-14yrs and one for 15yrs+.
Both are open to new members.

How does it work?

We are a mixed group of individuals who meet on the first Thursday of every month in the Bath Central Library (above Waitrose). The Teenage Reading group (11-14yrs) meets at 5:00-5:45pm and the Young Adult Reading Group (15yrs+) meets at 6:00-6:45pm.

We read one book a month and discuss it at the meetings.

We also meet authors, go on the odd field trip, shadow awards, get freebies (see pic) every once in a while.

To discover when we're next meeting and what book we're reading follow these links:

TRG ~ Teenage Reading Group ~ 11-14yrs

YARG ~ Young Adult Reading Group ~ 15yrs+

There is NO fee for either group - they're completely free!!!

Who are you? And why do you run the group?

If you've looked at my website you might know a bit about me already. If not I'll tell you that I am not connected to the library at all, it is just the venue.

I write teenage fiction and enjoy listening to your opinions on current teen titles. I also love to read teen books myself (which is why I write them) and it's always fun to chat with people about the books you've read.

What books do you read in the group?

One month in advance I suggest four books. Then we all vote for the one we want to read the most. Majority wins.

In the Teenage Reading Group for 11-14yr we read only teenage fiction, such as Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman, The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer, Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn etc.

In the Young Adult Reading Group for 15yrs+ we read a mix of adult and teen titles, such as The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Junk by Melvin Burgess, The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant etc.

Members are welcome to suggest titles for consideration.

What do I have to do as a group member?

Read some books. Turn up to meetings.

You don't have to say anything - I know what it's like to be shy! But hopefully you'll feel comfortable enough to have your say after you've got to know everyone a little.

The most important thing about the groups is that they should be fun.

Final note...

If you have any further questions about the groups you can contact me by clicking here or you can leave a message for me via the children's department of the Bath library on 01225 477809.

Feel free to just turn up on the night or even better let me know you're coming :-)

Hope to see you there.
